In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 118: Yarmouth's Sandy Pond Club, Birthday Greatest Hits, 1980s Fast Food Fails, Portsmouth NH, Great Emu War(11-1-2023)

It's Birthday Week on Episode 118 of the podcast!
There's a cause for celebration as I make another trip around the sun. What better way to reminisce than by looking at how a birthday evolves and changes as we age? Oh, and also there will be a makeshift Top 5 as I share some of the best(worst) birthday memories!
From a celebration today, to celebrations in the past, it'll be a fond, if somewhat hazy, look back at wild times on Cape Cod in the 1970s as we check out the story of the brief but spectacular existence of Yarmouth's Sandy Pond Club bar.
This week's Road Trip features one of my absolute favorite places in all of New England, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It will be tough to narrow down all there is to see and do there into a manageable segment, but we will get it done.
As a kid in the 1980s, no birthday celebration was complete without a trip to the drive-thru of your favorite fast-food establishment for dinner. This week's Top 5 is the other side of the coin as we look at the ambitious or downright odd menu items that became legendary fast food fails in the 80s.
There will be a brand new This Week In History and Time Capsule featuring the strange but true story of Australia's Great Emu War.

Not only is Episode 117 the special monthly bonus episode of the podcast, but it is the Halloween bonus episode!

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 116: A Cape Cod Man Murders His Child For God; the Iconic Unsolved Mysteries TV Show; Top 5 1970s Horror Movies; the Trunk Murders; Bucksport/Prospect ME(10-18-2023)

Episode 116 is loaded with creepy, terrifying, sad, and unbelievable stories for the Halloween season.
The show kicks off with a truly heartbreaking tale. Insane or not insane that is the question. Charles Freeman of the small Cape Cod village of Pocasset committed the ultimate crime when he murdered his 4-year-old daughter. However, his claims that it was done as a sacrifice in the name of God turn this into something different.
Mid-Coast Maine is beautiful and this time of year is perfect to visit. This week's Road Trip is a double dip. The neighboring small towns of Prospect and Bucksport go hand in hand. They are a great combination of waterfront views, foliage photography, and even the spooky. Plan your trip after this segment.
Children of the 80s and 90s reminisce about one of the most iconic shows of the time, one of the purveyors of nightmare fuel for many such kids. We go way Back in the Day to look at the Unsolved Mysteries tv show, specifically the Robert Stack version.
After running out of New England states to share weird laws from this week there is a completely different Top 5. In keeping with the season we are going to look at the Top 5 best/my favorite 1970s horror movies. I can assure you the movie named after this month's big holiday will be on it.
There will also be a brand new This Week In History and Time Capsule that shares the truly bizarre and disgusting Trunk Murders.

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 115: Visiting Salem MA for Halloween, Staying Home Sick From School in the 1980s & 1990s; Revisiting Provincetown's Secret Smallpox Cemetery; Weird MA Laws(10-11-2023)

Episode 115 takes a trip to possibly the perfect place in America to visit for the Halloween season: Salem, Massachusetts. This week's Road Trip is filled with witches, spooky cemeteries, possible haunted houses, and so much more. If you enjoy this time of year Salem is for you!
We go way Back In the Day and reminisce about the good and bad about staying home sick from school in the 1980s and 1990s. Sure there was no internet, no cell phones, no streaming, but there was an endless supply of game shows, sappy daytime television, and if all else was lost, a stack of VHS tapes.
The spooky season is continued as we revisit the sad and somber secret smallpox cemetery of Provincetown. In a laugh-out-loud moment, only after I finished recording and editing this episode did I discover I had previously spoken about this topic. Though still a fascinating subject it is in fact the first rerun on the podcast.
The Top 5 sees us wrap up the weird laws of the New England states as we look at the weirdly specific yet totally random laws brought forth by my home state, Massachusetts.
Of course, there will be a brand new This Week In History and Time Capsule focusing on the on-screen debut of comedy legends Laurel and Hardy.
