In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 110: Restaurant Storytime VI: Prep Boys Rock; Being A 90s Mall Rat; Weird Maine Laws; Meet Chester Vermont(8-30-2023)

Episode 110 begins with a return to Restaurant Storytime. In this chapter, we go back to the beginning of my time working in hospitality. The days of food prep in a rustic barn, loud music causing problems, mosh pit cleanup parties, broken windows, and more. This is Restaurant Storytime VI: Prep Boys Rock.
Small towns typically have palpable charm. Small towns in New England have it in spades. Small towns in Vermont just might be something out of a fairy tale. This week's Road Trip takes us to one such small town, that being Chester, Vermont. Come and Meet Chester.
Though the days of the indoor mall might be starting to wane due to the rise of online shopping there are still countless memories to look back on. We will go way Back In the Day to reminisce about what it was like to be a 1990s mall rat in the days when hanging out at the local mall was a weekend appointment. Was being a mall rat as fun as we remember? Let's find out.
After the wild look at the weird Rhode Island laws in Episode 108, it's time to keep moving around New England. This week's Top 5 features weird Maine laws. Will they be able to top the unique and often hilarious laws of Rhody?
There is also a brand new This Week In History and Time Capsule looking back at the beginnings of the famed Lewis and Clark Expedition.

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 109: BONUS - A Cape Cod Summer Vacation In 1923(8-23-2023)

Episode 109 is a special Bonus Episode. This is going to be a fun and unique episode.
We are going to take a deep dive into what it would have been like for someone coming to visit Cape Cod on summer vacation a century ago in the year 1923.
What would you see? Where would you stay? Where would you eat? How would you even get there?
All of these questions will be answered as you are transported back one hundred years. It's a fun slice of history wrapped up as a makeshift old-time radio play. Even if you're not from Cape Cod or have never visited it there is something for everyone as far as entertainment goes.
So enjoy a look back at a Cape Cod summer vacation in 1923.

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 108: My Friend Barry; The First X-Games; Weird Rhode Island Laws; Scituate, RI

Episode 108 is very Rhode Island-centric as we celebrate the smallest state in the country.
It begins with a bit of pulling back the curtain. I spoke at length in Episode 30 about my friend Matt who tragically passed away in 2017. In that episode, I mentioned making two lifelong friends at virtually the same time. One was Matt and the other was Barry. This week I will share some of what makes my friend Barry one of the most important people to ever grace my life.
There are hundreds and hundreds of beautiful cities and towns in the six New England states. Some are well-known and well-traveled, while others are more nondescript.  The latter are some of the best ones to visit as they exemplify what New England is all about. This week's Road Trip will do just that as we travel to the small town of Scituate, Rhode Island.
The X-Games are a well-known extreme sports competition event taking place in both the summer and winter. Over the last quarter-century, they have shone a light on skateboarding, snowboarding, mountain biking, cycle racing, and much more. For as world-renowned as these games are today did you know they got their start right here in New England? This week we go Back In the Day to the very first X-Games that took place in Rhode Island in 1995.
There is going to be a brand new Top 5 that showcases some of the weird and wacky laws on the books in Rhode Island. You will have to hear them to believe them!
Of course, there will be a new This Week In History and Time Capsule as well centered around the first successful transatlantic balloon flight.

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 107: Remembering the Christmas Tree Shops; 1980s Cape Cod Stores We Miss; 1993 Year In Music; Bridgeport, CT(8-9-2023)

Episode 107 is filled with Cape Cod nostalgia.
It begins with a bittersweet look back at the New England icon the Christmas Tree Shops as the company gets set to close all of its stores by the end of August. Although it grew to be more than a local gift shop this chain was born and developed on Cape Cod.
Known as the 'Constitution State' Connecticut is home to more than 3.6 million people. This week we will take a Road Trip to the largest city in the state when we visit Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Time moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while you might miss it. We're going to heed those immortal words of Ferris Bueller and take a look around. It will be a fun and fast-paced trip Back In the Day as we go back 30 years to look at the year in music in 1993.
There will be a major trip down memory lane for long-time Cape Codders in this week's Top 5. We will explore some of the stores we grew up on in the 1980s that are no longer around today. Will you remember any of these?
There will of course be a brand new This Week In History and Time Capsule as we take a morbid look back to the very first execution in the electric chair.
