Happy New Year!

The first podcast of 2026 is filled with all of the GenX nostalgia and pop culture you could want!

Episode 226 kicks off with a look at 1990s fitness fad fails. Common New Year's Resolutions revolve around health, fitness, and weight loss. We will look at some products, diets, and exercise equipment that were marketed to those looking to achieve a healthier life. Unfortunately, not all of them were successes; some were downright dangerous.

A new year means a new look back 30 years into the world of music. This week, we look at 1996, the year in music, focusing on January through June. News, songs, albums, and general thoughts about the music scene are here in this segment.

The first Top 5 of 2026 goes back to the first golden age of television commercials. We look at the most fondly remembered product advertising mascots of the 1960s. Many of these still exist to this day. How many do you remember?

There is a new This Week In History and Time Capsule looking back to the creation of FM radio.

Happy New Year to all of my listeners!

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 161: Howard the Duck, Nintendo Entertainment System Remix, Passing Fads of the 1970s, Psycho(9-11-2024)

A movie so bad my grandmother made us walk out? Passing fads of the 1970s? A remix from the first episode of the podcast?
Episode 161 looks ahead toward the fall while looking back with a heavy dose of nostalgia.
It kicks off with a movie widely considered to be one of the worst of the 1980s. Howard the Duck was a somewhat popular Marvel Comics character so how did he end up as a punchline in the annals of terrible movies? We'll get into that plus the story of how my grandmother and I walked out of the theater during the film.
It's a double-dip of Back In the Day as we not only take a look back at the beginnings of the Nintendo Entertainment System but also back to Episode 1 of the podcast as the NES was a part of the very first show. It's time for a retro remix.
Not everything that is popular stays popular. This week's Top 5 is proof of that as we look at the passing fads of the 1970s. Did you partake in any of these?
There is a brand new This Week In History and Time Capsule featuring the release of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, the godfather of slasher films.

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 144: The Crow 30th Anniversary; 1970s Diet/Exercise Fad Fails, Forgotten 80s MTV Shows, First McDonald's Restaurant(5-15-2024)

The 30th anniversary of the movie The Crow. Some amazing diet and exercise fad fails of the 1970s. MTV shows that came and went in the 1980s. The very first McDonald's restaurant.
Episode 144 will super-size your nostalgia cravings.
It kicks off with a look back at the movie The Crow on the week of its 30th anniversary. Marred somewhat by the tragic on-set death of star Brandon Lee this movie is a captivating story with a perfectly 90s soundtrack. We'll look at all of that and more in this segment.
Most people in their lives will struggle with their weight or overall health. Diets and exercise are the cure but can be boring at times. That being said some fitness fads of the past are not recommended for anyone. We go way Back In the Day this week to look at some diet and exercise fads that failed during the 1970s. You won't believe some of these were real.
Not all television shows can be hits. For every show that changes the entertainment landscape, countless fade away into the annals of history. As MTV was developing into a cultural phenomenon it tried many different show types. Some made it big, but on this week's Top 5 we'll look at those MTV shows that came and went in the 1980s.
The brand-new This Week In History and Time Capsule will look at the behemoth known as McDonald's as it celebrates the anniversary of the opening of its very first location.
