It's time to make a Love Connection. Some forgotten ESPN shows from the 80s. A look at the best Super Bowl commercials.

Episode 230 starts the month of love off by being Cupid and delivering a fresh batch of GenX nostalgia.

We start it off by looking at a classic in the realm of romance game shows. Love Connection spent years trying to bring people together into a relationship. Although they failed the vast majority of the time it still gave us some classic television.

Not all ESPN shows can be SportsCenter or 30 for 30. In fact, some shows end up just being forgotten. We will look back at some forgotten ESPN shows of the 1980s, including a time when they had a straight business show on their airwaves.

In honor of Super Bowl week, this week's Top 5 will look at some of the best Super Bowl commercials ever. Will this list be a touchdown or a fumble?

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 211: Super Mario Bros Turns 40, The Debut of ESPN, Defunct Supermarket Chains(9-10-2025)

When sports got its own network. When the most famous video game character burst onto the scene. Supermarket chains that faded into history.

Episode 211 of the podcast bridges the gap between Labor Day and the beginning of fall with a heavy dose of Gen X nostalgia.

The show starts in the olden days of the 1970s. Back then, sports were limited to local news broadcasts and a select few games on major networks. Then, in 1979, a revolution began. The letters ESPN have become synonymous with excellence in sports broadcasting, but it had to start somewhere. We take a deep dive into the beginning of the first 24-hour sports channel.

40 years ago this week a plumber changed the world of gaming forever. We go back and look at the debut of Super Mario Bros. for the NES. In the decades since his humble beginnings, Mario has become the most popular and profitable gaming franchise ever. It is a trip down memory lane just with lots more coins, mushrooms, and koopas.

In a new Top 5 we will take a trip around some defunct supermarket chains. Did you ever get your groceries at any of these?

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 108: My Friend Barry; The First X-Games; Weird Rhode Island Laws; Scituate, RI

Episode 108 is very Rhode Island-centric as we celebrate the smallest state in the country.
It begins with a bit of pulling back the curtain. I spoke at length in Episode 30 about my friend Matt who tragically passed away in 2017. In that episode, I mentioned making two lifelong friends at virtually the same time. One was Matt and the other was Barry. This week I will share some of what makes my friend Barry one of the most important people to ever grace my life.
There are hundreds and hundreds of beautiful cities and towns in the six New England states. Some are well-known and well-traveled, while others are more nondescript. The latter are some of the best ones to visit as they exemplify what New England is all about. This week's Road Trip will do just that as we travel to the small town of Scituate, Rhode Island.
The X-Games are a well-known extreme sports competition event taking place in both the summer and winter. Over the last quarter-century, they have shone a light on skateboarding, snowboarding, mountain biking, cycle racing, and much more. For as world-renowned as these games are today did you know they got their start right here in New England? This week we go Back In the Day to the very first X-Games that took place in Rhode Island in 1995.
There is going to be a brand new Top 5 that showcases some of the weird and wacky laws on the books in Rhode Island. You will have to hear them to believe them!
Of course, there will be a new This Week In History and Time Capsule as well centered around the first successful transatlantic balloon flight.
