In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 178: A Funny 1980s Shoplifting Short-Film, Best Debut Songs Ever, Nautilus Fitness Equipment, Boston Molasses Flood(1-15-2025)

A campy 1980s anti-shoplifting short film. The revolutionary Nautilus fitness equipment. Some of the best debut songs ever.
Episode 178 brings the heat of nostalgia for the cold days of winter.
New Year, New You...old equipment? We kick off with a look back at the creation of a fitness revolution. The Nautilus brand of exercise machines set the standard for all others to follow. Though primitive by today's standards the original machines of half a century ago are nonetheless highly influential.
Shoplifting is the scourge of all business owners. Apparently never more so than in the early 1980s when everyone was a thief. We go way back in the day to review an anti-shoplifting educational short film. Shoplifters: The Criminal Hordes shows some of the wacky but real ways people would steal and some of the ways to combat it.
Every legend started somewhere. This week's Top 5 features some of the greatest debut songs ever. These are the songs that kickstarted some of the most important careers in music history.
There is a brand new This Week In History and Time Capsule centered around the bizarre but terrifying Boston Molasses Flood.

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 155: Visiting the County Fair, 'And Then It Happened' Bus Safety Short Film Review, 1970s Teen Movies, Summer Jam Music Festival(7-31-2024)

Memories of visiting local county fairs. The 1970s teach you about bus safety. Some classic 1970s teen movies.
Episode 155 of the podcast is making a pit stop in the swinging 70s.
It all starts with the history and memories of county fairs. On Cape Cod, the Barnstable County Fair has been a summer staple for well over 150 years. What makes a classic county fair? Food? Rides? Music? We'll go into all of it.
Bus safety is hugely important. Children of the 1970s likely remember being scarred by the infamous and somewhat impractical short film ...and Then It Happened. We go way Back In the Day to try to figure out just how every possible bad behavior happened on a single bus ride.
What is considered a 'teen movie' grows and evolves over time. This week's Top 5 takes a look at some of the most well-known 1970s teen movies. Some make sense while others might not fit the typical mold of a teen movie.
There is also a brand new This Week In History and Time Capsule centered around the historic Summer Jam music festival in New York in 1973.

In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 143: Restaurant Storytime 8, Sweet Pickles Books, Forgotten 90s Musical Artists, 4-Minute Mile(5-8-2024)

The beloved Sweet Pickles books. Some forgotten 90s musical acts. The most toxic workplace I've experienced.
Episode 143 of the podcast has a bit of everything.
It begins with the return of a podcast staple, Restaurant Storytime. This 8th installment is a segment 143 episodes in the making. Toxic workplaces are unfortunately all too common. This segment reveals the most toxic place I've been a part of. It might veer off into rant territory at times but it's also packed with laughs. You won't believe your ears at some of the memories this segment evokes.
The mood gets lighter as we go way Back In the Day to a beloved part of many Gen-Xer's childhoods. Sweet Pickles was a series of books featuring animals with unique personalities kids could relate to. It was also a brand that extended into other forms of merchandise. Smart moms know how kids' minds grow!
This week's Top 5 will dive into some forgotten 1990s musical artists who were big during the decade but perhaps have faded with time. Hopefully, this segment will shine a new light back on them.
This Week In History and Time Capsule will be centered around a barrier once thought to be beyond the human body, the sub-4 minute mile.
