In My Footsteps Podcast Episode 252: 60 Years of Doritos, Live Aid Concert Event, Family Feud, Rebranded Sports Teams(7-15-2026)

The tasty history of Doritos. The historic Live Aid concert event. Sports teams that were rebranded as others.

Episode 252 is chock full of GenX nostalgia to try to keep you cool in the July heat.

It starts with one of the most historic music events ever. Live Aid was a one-day event featuring many legends of the day. Taking place in 1985 and on two separate continents, it raised money for famine relief while also creating some enduring musical memories.

Six decades of snacking. We celebrate Doritos, which burst onto the scene in 1966. From simple toasted corn tortilla chips to more than 100 flavors worldwide, Doritos have been a staple of after school, sporting event gatherings, teenage parties, and more for most of many of our lives.

Countless sports franchises have been in the same city for decades. Some have left their original cities but kept their name. For this Top 5, we are looking at teams that not only left their original city but also were rebranded. Growing up in New England, the Hartford Whalers hockey team was front and center on this list. Do you have any favorite rebranded sports teams?

Survey says we have a brand-new This Week In History and Time Capsule, looking at the 50-year legacy of the game show Family Feud.

Initial Impressions 2.0 Blog #60: Found Footage, Failed Inspections, Cars on Bike Trails, etc.

1. A shocking event occurred. I was trying to find an old post in my Facebook archives when I noticed a tab for live videos I had shared. To my incredibly happy surprise, a livestream I had done in 2018 on location during a terrible winter storm was there. When recording it my phone’s battery had died. I was unable to find the footage and sadly assumed it had been lost since I didn’t officially ‘end’ my stream. But lo and behold there was the stream from March 4, 2018, in my archives. I swore I had looked high and low through my archives trying to find that stream without success. Obviously, if I knew I had it I’d have shared it sooner than 8 years later. Oh well, here we are. I have my own sort of ‘found footage’ I can share. By the time you read this, it will be all over my social media.

2. Another pleasant surprise was bumping into an old coworker at the grocery store. I recognized his voice before I saw him. He is a very nice guy but can be kind of loud and animated when he speaks. This became apparent when he was explaining how he got called into work on that day. He was at a self-checkout stand and a couple were standing behind me. They were so mesmerized by him that they didn’t notice several other self-checkout registers were open. The man even said he was in total agreement about my old coworker's situation. We all had huge smiles on our faces. Well, except for my old coworker since he had to go to work.

3. I had been dreading getting my car inspected. It’s not that my car is in bad shape, it actually runs really well for being over 150K miles. I just had a sneaking suspicion my front tires might not pass. But you can’t not get your vehicle inspected so I went and boom failed. Now I get to drive around with that lovely red R sticker until I can get the tires replaced and get a follow-up inspection. Yay.

Yes, it looked like this, nice.

4. The first really nice weather day of the season came with a high hitting 58. I took this opportunity to go for a run/walk after work. Since I am training for a 5K I try to run that distance each time. I was able to find a good stretch of the bike trail to make the 3.1 miles. It did however end in a cemetery. I guess it was appropriate because if my body felt terrible I could just lie down for the ‘big sleep’ next to the rest of the citizens of the cemetery.

5. A big shout out to Doritos for making their chips healthier. I grabbed a mini bag of chips and noticed that the total calories on the bag had gone down from 400 to 390. Wow, good job. Oh, wait, no, they didn’t make them healthier. They’re just giving you less in the bag. Don’t worry though they still cost the same for less. Greedy corporate scumbags.

6. In setting up the appointment to get my tires for my car so it will pass inspection the tire place asked me the exact size of my tires. Obviously I don’t have that info stored in my brain. I went running downstairs while on the phone. I opened the storm door and it smashed into my hand. I had to do all I could not to yell and swear while on the phone and also in the front yard. I saved the swearing for after I got back inside and off the phone.

7. Getting the new tires was of course filled with colorful characters in the waiting room. There was the skinny young guy with a mustache who paced around the waiting room like he was waiting to become a father. There was the middle-aged chunky guy who visited the vending machine 3 times in less than 45 minutes. I mean come on are you that hungry? Oh well, at least I got the tires without issue.

8. It was a lot of driving and waiting. It took 45 minutes to get to the tire shop. I waited an hour for them. It was 45 minutes back home to get the car reinspected. I waited 40 minutes for that. Sure I got everything squared away but when I was off-Cape all I kept thinking of was places to go get some cool photos. Then I would get slapped back to reality when I realized I could do that but with the big red R sticker on my car, I’d be getting a cool sunset shot while being written up by the cops.

This is the place I've gone 3 times now, highly recommended. Used Tire Warehouse Wareham, MA

9. I was out for a walk on a drizzly foggy morning. I looked way up ahead and saw a car slowly driving toward me. This would normally not be a big deal except for the fact that I was walking on a bike trail. I took out my phone to start filming it and when it got closer I realized it was an unmarked police vehicle. I didn’t want the headache I’d cause if I filmed it and shared it. Still, what the actual hell? Cops are using the bike trail as a cut-through? Or did this guy just not care that he might be endangering people by driving a car on a bike trail? You’d never see a firefighter doing that, just sayin’.

10. Speaking of bike trails. A different day, but the same foggy drizzly weather (yay Cape Cod). I was heading toward the western end of the Cape Cod Rail Trail. It goes through a golf course and then ends at a main road. However, the plan has been for years to continue to rail trail from Yarmouth into the next town Hyannis. Finally I saw the beginnings of the process. There was a long stretch of cleared trees heading off to the side of the trail. It is exciting news. Although to be real I don’t expect the trail to be fully finished for a year. Maybe for Summer 2026? Oh well, I know that I’ll be running on it as soon as the asphalt is dry, and there’s nobody around.

Initial Impressions 2.0 Blog #57: Bloody Good, Diet Woes, Don't Call Me Sir, etc.

1. At my work we have something called compression therapy. You get wrapped up in these pads that squeeze your body stimulating the lymphatic system to get moving. It is great for your overall health. When you do this therapy it is 30 minutes you relax and then when the session is done someone comes in and unwraps you. If somebody has done the compression therapy enough they might feel comfortable enough to start unwrapping themselves to help. A person was doing that before I got in the room to assist them. It all seemed fine until I went back in to clean off the pads. It was then that I noticed the splatters of blood on different parts of the various pads. It looked like a crime scene. The worst part was there was another person set to use the compression therapy and as I wrapped them in the pads I kept noticing other drops of blood I had missed. I had no poker face and was horrified.

2. The only thing that could possibly rival the bloody good story above at work this week was the following. My boss got a great deal on a used mannequin. He intends to use it to display clothing featuring the business logo on it. Makes sense. The funny part was how it arrived. It was in pieces. So bringing in the top half and the arms was fine. However, nothing could prepare me for the sight of my boss walking in with this naked ass mannequin bottom up near his face. I couldn’t have written it any better. We ended up stashing it for a while in the compression therapy room but kept the door closed since it looked like we had killed and dismembered someone in there.

3. Only I could vacuum a room for several minutes not realizing the hose wasn’t attached. Granted I wondered why the vacuum had such terrible suction but it wasn’t until I turned around and saw the disconnected hose on the floor that it all made sense. I have said it a million times, I was born blond so don’t be shocked at stories like these.

4. I spent an evening tearing up an old carpet and then slicing it into strips with a box cutter. I was so focused on getting it done right after work that I didn’t bother to put any sort of mask on to protect me from dust. Eventually, I brought several contractor bags of rolled-up carpet slices outside. My body was exhausted from the workout. Then later on while relaxing not wearing a mask came back to haunt me as I got a major bloody nose from inhaling all of that dust and whatever else was underneath the carpet. Oh well, at least it got done.

Yeah, it was a little like this.

5. In the coming weeks I am shooting the scenes for my first acting gig. It’s funny because I made tons of skits as a kid with my camcorder and craft scripts for my podcast weekly yet trying to get lines I didn’t write memorized is really tough. I printed out all of my scenes and have had trouble getting the lines down. One solution I had was to print them out again, only in a much bigger font. It’s like speaking to a dog, and then saying the words again slower like that will suddenly make the dog understand you.

6. I could be on the strictest of diets but will never not be a sucker for a new flavor of Doritos. I have loved them since I was a kid and any time they release a new flavor I will try it. The latest proof of that is the Late Night Sizzlin’ Cheeseburger flavor. I definitely enjoy them. Every now and then some Doritos are okay, but when I see there are more flavors in this Late Night series that’s when the ominous music starts to play and I feel my pants begin to get tighter. Oh well, six-pack abs are overrated anyway, right?

Dangerously good.

7. Did my first real interior paint job this week. A subtle gray paint on half of my apartment. Luckily I wore clothes I was cool with throwing out because to no one’s surprise, I got paint all over me. Also, put in new flooring in the form of carpeted tiles. That was fun as well but hell on the knees. The room does look a lot better but my body needed a day to recover for sure.

8. I was under the impression on Instagram that once things you post on your story are gone (after 24 hours) nobody can see them except you in your own archives. This week I had some random person like a story of mine from 5 ½ years ago. Not sure how they got to see it. It was very creepy and suspicious that I immediately blocked them just to stop any weirdness before it really gets going. I mean you need to be a special kind of weirdo to deep dive someone’s IG story back more than 5 years.

9. This winter has been one long hibernation. It’s like I’ve done a lot of work, content-wise, but I feel like I’ve been holed up. I don’t know if it’s the cold. I don’t know if it’s being busy with work. I don’t know if I need a change physically to gain energy. Maybe it’s my diet being bad and my body doesn’t produce the energy from bad foods. One or all of these things need to change soon. This blah chapter feels like it’s run its course.

10. Being called ‘sir’ by someone much younger is still a very weird thing. I don’t feel that old (most days) so I definitely don’t feel like being called ‘sir’ is warranted. But I’m also not going to be some mid-life crisis guy who corrects someone young who calls me sir. It actually shows respect for your *ugh* elders. I mean I call people much older than me sir. Wait, so I guess I’m much older than these people? Man, it’s time for a nap followed by dinner at 4pm.

I'm not this guy...yet.
